Letting you in on a secret...

I want to let you in on a bit of a secret today...

There are days when I really don't want to practice.

There are also days when my practice feels hard. Or when I press snooze on my morning alarm at least five times before finally getting out of bed to do my morning routine.

The thing that actually gets me on my mat is by reconnecting to the reasons why I practice.

As we've talked about in class, yoga practice requires discipline and diligent effort (abhyasa).

But I've also found that having a deeper meaning is what will keep you consistent - in any area of your life when working towards a goal.

I started a new practice recently. Every morning, I write down five things I'm grateful for, 10 dreams I want to make happen written as if they have happened and the one goal I am focusing on right now. It serves as a reminder each and every day of what I am working towards and why I am doing it.

You don't have to do exactly the same thing, but I do believe that reconnecting with a deeper why first thing in the morning is really helpful for keeping us focused.

I'm finding that if I'm connected with my why, I'm so much more likely to get out of bed and just do the damn thing (my yoga practice!) because it feels less like another thing on the to-do list and much more like something important and meaningful.

So give it a try for yourself.

I want you to to get a post-it or a piece of paper right now.

Write down all the reasons why you want to practice or why you want to eat healthily or why you want to get more sleep or whatever your goal is. Write down what it means to you, how it helps you, how it makes you feel.

Then stick it somewhere you will see it. Come back to it often. And let that fuel your abhyasa.

Have a great week,
Lauren x
