What to do when your yoga practice lacks inspiration

After a fantastic day plugging into the yoga community, I felt a big hit of fresh inspiration in my own practice this morning.

Which leads me on to this week’s MondayMantra. I wanted to talk a bit about inspiration…specifically the inspiration to keep showing up for your yoga practice.

Inspiration is an elusive animal…it comes and goes, seemingly as it pleases. It is closely linked to your motivation and whatever is going on in your life.

Some days, you feel on top of the world and ready, eager to step on your mat. Other days, you have to dig deep.

Goodness knows, I’ve gone through plenty of spells of feeling a lack of inspiration - and even times where I’ve felt a real aversion to showing up and doing the work.

There isn’t really a secret formula to this – instead, my advice is simply to:

And then hold on to that.

The deeper ‘why’ behind anything is what will pull you through when it feels challenging. Because it will feel challenging at some point.

But like everything worth doing, if you can keep going through the challenges, the rewards will be even sweeter. A huge sense of accomplishment. And a renewed sense of trust in yourself.

If you’ve been away from your mat for a while, remember you can join me online on Wednesdays at 6pm over at The Yoga Factory. Details here.
